EventLive makes it easy to estimate how much data you’ll use when streaming your event. Here’s what you need to know:
Data Usage for Streaming with EventLive
EventLive uses about 1 GB of data per hour of live streaming.
This is the maximum data usage. In many cases, it may be less, depending on your device and connection.
This estimate applies whether you are using a phone, iPad, or similar device.
How to Calculate Your Data Needs
Estimate the length of your event in hours.
Multiply the number of hours by 1 GB.
Example:
A 2-hour event will use about 2 GB of data (2 hours x 1 GB per hour).
Important Notes
The video stream will not cut off if you reach 1 GB. The 1 GB per hour is just an estimate for planning.
Actual data usage can be less, depending on your device and network conditions.
If you are using a portable Wi-Fi box or mobile data (3G/4G/5G), make sure your data plan covers the estimated usage.
If possible, use a reliable Wi-Fi connection to avoid running out of mobile data.
Troubleshooting and Common Questions
What if I go over my data limit?
Your stream will not automatically stop, but your mobile provider may slow down your connection or charge extra fees if you exceed your data plan.
Check with your mobile provider about your data limits and any extra charges.
Does the type of device affect data usage?
Data usage may vary slightly depending on your device, but 1 GB per hour is the maximum you should expect.
Will viewers use the same amount of data?
The above estimate is for the person streaming (broadcasting) the event, not for viewers watching the stream.
