How to Check Upload Speed for Live-Streaming

To have a smooth live stream with EventLive, it’s important to know your upload speed. Here’s how you can check your upload speed and make sure it’s good enough for your event.

Step 1: Test Your Upload Speed

  1. Go to the location where you plan to stream.

  2. Connect to the internet you will use for the event (WiFi, LTE, 4G, or 5G).

  3. Use a speed test app or website (like Speedtest.net or Fast.com) on your phone or device.

  4. Run the test and look for the upload speed result (measured in Mbps).

Step 2: Check Your Upload Speed Against EventLive’s Recommendations

  • For best results, you should have at least 3–4 Mbps upload speed.

  • The app will work with lower speeds, but the video quality may be reduced automatically.

  • For 1080p streaming, aim for 4 Mbps or higher upload speed.

  • For 720p streaming, 3 Mbps is usually enough.

Step 3: Test with the EventLive App

  1. Open the EventLive app at your event location.

  2. Start a test event (you can do this anytime).

  3. Watch the signal indicator in the app. It will show you if your connection is strong enough.

  4. If the signal is weak, try moving to a different spot or switching networks.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If your upload speed is low:

  • Try switching from WiFi to mobile data (or vice versa).

  • Move closer to your WiFi router or to an area with better cell reception.

  • Avoid using the internet for other heavy tasks during your stream.

  • If you’re using LTE/4G/5G:

  • Speeds can vary a lot by location. Always test at the actual event site.

  • LTE can be very fast, but it depends on your signal strength.

  • If you have high upload speed (over 4 Mbps):

  • You can stream in higher quality (up to 1080p on iOS).

  • On Android, the maximum is 720p.

Important Notes

  • The download speed is not important for streaming your event. Focus on the upload speed.

  • The EventLive app will automatically adjust the video quality if your upload speed drops.

  • If you want to check your stream quality, you can run a test event before your real event.

Additional Tips

  • If you want to stream in 1080p, make sure to enable it in the app settings (iOS only).

  • If you have a professional camera and encoder, you can stream in higher quality, but the maximum for EventLive is 1080p.

  • If you re-upload a high-resolution recording after your event, the download will be available in the quality you uploaded.
